چکیده

Introduction: Inter-/intramuscular fat can be assessed with peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT) and is of interest as an indicator “muscle quality.” Typical pQCT scan sites (forearm, lower leg) have a low amount inter-/intramuscular fat, however distal diaphyseal femur conspicuous been identified potentially more prudent sites, even in healthy adolescents. However, current state the art analysis methods require labor-intensive manual segmentation scan. The purpose present study was to evaluate reliability novel open source automated enclosing convex polygon approach (source code https://github.com/tjrantal/pQCT, commit cec9bce) quantify from femoral scans adults. Methodology: (25% tibial length knee joint towards hip) 27 adults aged 18–50 yr were scanned twice, 1 wk apart, using pQCT. Subcutaneous muscle, marrow areas, corresponding densities evaluated method we reported previously, well method. Results: session-to-session assessments fair excellent previously indicated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC2,1) ranging 0.45 1.00, while produced (ICC2,1 0.78–1.00). Conclusion: Distal appears informative site for evaluation

Bone measurements by peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) in children with cerebral palsy.

OBJECTIVE To use peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) to determine bone measurements in patients with cerebral palsy (CP) age 3 to 20 years and compare them with control subjects. STUDY DESIGN A total of 13 (5 male) patients with CP, along with 2 sex- and age-matched controls for each, were included in a mixed-model analysis with matched pairs as random effects for pQCT bone mea...

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography at the distal radius: cross-calibration between two scanners.

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) is an important technique to study the interaction between the muscle and bone systems. We have recently established pQCT reference ranges for children, adolescents and young adults using a recent version (XCT 2000) of the Stratec scanners (Stratec Inc., Pforzheim, Germany). However, the previous version of this type of scanner (XCT 900) is sti...

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) bone measurements in children with cystic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND Individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) have low bone density and increased fracture risk. METHODS Cross-sectional study investigating whole body bone mineral content (WBBMC), bone geometry and strength in 12 children with CF compared to 23 age- and sex-matched controls with and without adjusting for age, height, and body composition. RESULTS CF group had lower WBBMC than controls ...

Quantification of bone mineral density precision according to repositioning errors in peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) at the radius and tibia.

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) is increasingly being used to measure bone mineral density (BMD) in both research and clinical practice to monitor BMD changes. Repeated measurements in long-term follow-up study are an appropriate method to study the pattern of bone loss and the diagnostic value critically depends upon the precision (reproducibility). Positioning is one of the...

Lower Trabecular Volumetric BMD at Metaphyseal Regions of Weight-Bearing Bones is Associated With Prior Fracture in Young Girls

Understanding the etiology of skeletal fragility during growth is critical for the development of treatments and prevention strategies aimed at reducing the burden of childhood fractures. Thus we evaluated the relationship between prior fracture and bone parameters in young girls. Data from 465 girls aged 8 to 13 years from the Jump-In: Building Better Bones study were analyzed. Bone parameters...
